Matchbox Charms

Over the past decade and a half, I have made at least ninety matchbox charms. Each is uniquely conceived and has its own name. The name and contents as well as some suggested fanciful “uses” are listed on the back of the matchbox “drawer.” The charms reclaim small things that might otherwise be lost or discarded and contain a variety of natural, handmade, and manufactured bits, some attached and some loose. Each one also has some verbal element, a fortune, motto, or quotation, but there is no set formula.

It is hoped that the selection, combination, and connection of elements in each box provides them a new place to be in the universe, and that this most miniaturized form of recovery and discovery will cast a good charm over the old matchbox and the new owner. Matchbox charms are approximately 2" X 1.5"; they can be kept, but are often given as gifts.
